It is an exciting time as this week marks the beginning of the immediate preparation for the new academic year for our school and preschool and a new year of ministry for our parish! A lot of events will be happening around the campus between our parish leadership, school faculty and staff, school PTU and athletics, and all the new families who will be joining us.

Please pray for our parish council, finance council, and parish staff as we all gather this week to reflect on parish life and pray together as we move into a new season of collaboration, communication, and planning. On Thursday, I will be leading a retreat for all of our HF School teachers and staff. The theme is “To the Heights!”: Going Deeper into Faith, Discipleship, and Prayer.” Please keep me and all who will attend in your prayers that the day may be fruitful!

This Tuesday is the Feast of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, the famous Cistercian Monk and Abbot of the 12th century. Writing deeply on the spiritual life, he shares: “The man who is wise, therefore, will see his life as more like a reservoir than a canal. The canal simultaneously pours out what it receives; the reservoir retains the water till it is filled, then discharges the overflow without loss to itself…Today there are many in the Church who act like canals, the reservoirs are far too rare…You too must learn to await this fullness before pouring out your gifts, do not try to be more generous than God.”
