With the majority of heavy construction, concrete work and dust behind us, the project is finally beginning to show glimpses of its envisioned beauty. With the ceiling painted, and the wall painting underway, the church already has a totally different and fresh look.

• The originally designed ceiling lighting is currently being installed, casting their beautiful – intended shadows on the upper walls. The current “saucer lights” remain only as temporary construction lighting.

• The long-hidden luster of the wonderful terrazzo floor, is re-appearing, and can be seen in the alter floor extension work.

• The Holy Family “signature curvature” of the original building’s architectural design, is quite apparent in the modification of the Narthex – with a new bride’s room/family restroom, and multi-purpose room.

• Significant work continues behind the scenes, with electrical, automatic doors, sound system – all ongoing.

The enhancements as planned, will not only re revitalize our worship space for current and future times, but will also retain much of the signature look that made Holy Family Church a “landmark” -state of the art structure in the mid 1960’s when built.

Electrical work for lighting is ongoing as well as work for automatic entry doors.  Sound system work is progressing at a rapid pace.  There is substantial work on refurbishing the terrazzo floor, to repair areas where the prior pews sat.  Painter mobilization has begun, the ceiling will be painted first.

Some of the more noticeable changes can be seen in the photos below.  The altar back wall has already received the first rough coat, is receiving its second coat of plaster, and is well on its way to a magnificent transformation.  The altar extension is quite evident.  The curvature of the first step can now be seen extending toward the congregation.  The terrazzo top coat is under way.  In the back of the church, you can see the expansion of the old cry room and rest rooms, which we be transformed into a family bathroom/bride’s room, and a multi-purpose/cry room.  The framing is in place, and you can now see where the glass entry wall will be extended forward, to be flush with the choir loft.

The forms had previously been laid for the altar floor modification.  The concrete has  been poured, and the new extension is now ready for the two inch terrazzo top coat.  The new modified back wall is now ready for the plaster wall coverings.  The Narthex (or main church entry area) is in process of having a new ceiling installed.

Next up

  • Repair of existing terrazzo floor
  • Painting of the main ceiling
  • Continued electrical/lighting/sound system work

THE VISION BEGINS TO TAKE SHAPE…

Construction has taken a turn for the dramatic. Structural reconfiguration becomes quite evident as the modified back wall begins to take shape. The fresh new curves are evident, and the cutouts for the tabernacle area are visible.

Significant work is evident from the photos, on the sacristy altar floor. The sharp angles have been removed, and the outline of the gentle new curvature of the modified extended floor can be seen. The remaining terrazzo floor is also under repair/refurbishing. The loaves and fish terrazzo floor section has been successfully removed for its relocation.

Pews have been ordered along with presider’s chair and other altar furniture. Electrical work has begun in earnest. The sound system design has been finalized, and much of the components of the new system – speakers, microphones etc. are being been ordered.

Another anticipated enhancement, the beautiful and complete lighting of our magnificent stained-glass window on York Road – depicting the Holy Family, is also underway.

Stay tuned to this WEB Site as well as the In Church Bulletins for continued and current coverage of the project Status.

The plumbing lines/drainage work for family bathroom has been completed. Materials have been delivered to begin framing the back wall of the altar. Don’t worry! we didn’t change the structure or curvature of the church. This is simply a beautiful panoramic view of the beginning of our construction.

The Church is closed to all except authorized construction personnel. Please do not attempt to gain access to the church. We will keep you up to date with all aspects of construction with Photos and comments continually on this WEB Page – and periodically in bulletins.
